Fueling the Community: Why We’re Giving Away Free Logs to York’s Local Businesses
At Gus Bishop Tree Services, we’ve always believed that being a tree surgeon is about more than just pruning branches, it’s about being a steward of the Yorkshire landscape.
As the winners of the "Eco-Friendly Tree Surgeons of the Year" (Prestige Awards), we are constantly looking for ways to lower our carbon footprint and support our neighbors. That is why we are thrilled to announce our new community initiative: Free Reclaimed Logs for Local Businesses.
Closing the Loop: From Tree Care to Local Hearth
In the tree surgery industry, "waste" is a common byproduct. However, we don't see it as waste, we see it as a local energy resource.
Whether we are performing a crown reduction in Pocklington or a precision removal in Malton, we generate high-quality timber. Instead of letting this resource sit in a yard or hauling it long distances, we want to keep it right here in the community. By providing free logs to local pubs, farm shops, and small businesses, we are helping to create a circular economy in North and East Yorkshire.
Why Is This "Eco-Friendly"?
Most store-bought logs found in supermarkets are kiln-dried using industrial heat and shipped across the country, or even imported from overseas.
By using our reclaimed local logs, York businesses can:
Reduce Carbon Miles: Our logs travel from the job site directly to your door (within a 20-mile radius of Stamford Bridge).
Support Zero-Waste: You are helping us ensure that 100% of the organic material we remove is put to productive use.
Support Local Trade: We want our local village pubs and independent shops to thrive. Lowering your heating or fuel costs is our way of saying thank you for keeping our community vibrant.

Is Your Business Eligible?
We are looking to partner with local businesses within our service areas, including York, Malton, Pocklington, Selby, Wetherby, and Market Weighton.
This initiative is perfect for:
Farm Shops looking for rustic display materials
Local Artisans looking for green wood for carving or wood-turning.
Note: As this is a free community service, availability depends on our current project load. We prioritize businesses that share our commitment to sustainability!
